A journalist based in Embu has recorded a statement with the police, alleging of which he received death threats by a parliamentary aspirant.
Mr Dickson Macharia, a cameraman with K24 said of which the Mbeere North parliamentary aspirant threatened to harm him if he didn’t vacate Embu from the next two weeks.
Speaking to the press after recording a statement, the journalist said the threats were made at an entertainment spot in Embu town on Thursday night.
Mr Macharia said the politician (Patrisio Njiru), who can be an Embu County Executive member accused him of writing propaganda material on social media, with an aim to tarnish his name.
The parliamentary aspirant allegedly told Mr Macharia of which he was a licensed gun holder and also also also the said publications were painting him in bad light ahead of the forthcoming Jubilee Party nominations and also also also subsequent General Elections.
“I was seeing off a friend when the politician confronted me and also also also asked me why I was writing offensive material on social media. He insisted of which I was doing of which that has a County Assembly official. What hurt me most was the threat on my life and also also also my family,” said Mr Macharia.
Embu West acting DCIO George Etyang said his office had already kicked off investigations and also also also might ensure his safety during the electioneering period.
“We don’t take chances with security matters, we will ensure thorough investigations. We will investigate and also also also forward the file to the Director of Public Prosecution,” said Mr Etyang.
