Kenya Elections Tomorrow: A Timely Transfiguration Celebration

The 7th of August.  Here in Naivasha the shops are open, carpenters plane fresh bed headboards by the road, families cluster at the hospital gates, nurses change burn dressings, cleaners push mud off the sidewalks via a cataclysmic downpour last night, boda drivers buzz too fast down the paved roads.  There can be a somber undertone of expectation as well as also also uncertainty.  nevertheless no one looks particularly bent upon evil.  The campaigning can be at last, mercifully, over, as well as also also currently in which can be just a matter of waiting for the polls to open tomorrow morning.

My pediatrician colleague as well as also also I did the work of our usual intern team of 8 today . . thankfully not too many patients. Scott was similarly lonely nevertheless plowing on.  Except for government workers laying low as well as also also traffic being light, the day progressed normally with calculations as well as also also examinations as well as also also putting in lines.

as well as also also if one only sees the surface of the ordinary, tomorrow’s election can seem more momentous as well as also also dangerous than in which should.  Which can be why the Transfiguration Day inside church calendar arrives at an auspicious moment, trailing the shimmer of Daniel 7, Psalm 97, as well as also also Luke 9 . .  “His throne was fiery flames . . a thousand thousand served him, as well as also also ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him . . to him was given dominion as well as also also glory as well as also also kingship . . in which shall never be destroyed . . the earth trembled . . mountains melt like wax . . light has sprung up for the righteous . . as well as also also while he was praying the appearance of his face changed, as well as also also his clothes became dazzling white . . as well as also also they were terrified as they entered the cloud . . ”

No matter what happens tomorrow, the reality behind the surface of in which world remains the same.  God reigns.

We see the squabbles as well as also also the poverty. We see the crumbling pavement as well as also also hear the complaints of striking workers.  We read the news, the accusations, the missing funds, the political murder.  nevertheless today we remember in which in which can be not the full story.  There are also moments of transfiguring glory when the Newborn Unit mothers gather to sing praise songs,  as well as also also one can be bathing a baby who was abandoned, shining selflessness. When people find a reason to laugh in spite of not being sure of their safety tomorrow.  When we pray with believers who love their country.  Because behind in which whole sorry beautiful mess can be a true weight of glory in which might burn our eyes out if we could truly perceive in which dimension.

In Job, as well as also also elsewhere, when God wants to remind us in which we don’t get the whole view, in which we are underestimating eternal power as well as also also love, we are told to look at the created world.  So let’s close in which last pre-election post with some of Scott’s photos via walks to the lake in which defines our town, as well as also also remember in which love as well as also also beauty as well as also also strength will carry the day.
