Women in Mombasa want the government to act tough on rapists after two men attacked a woman as well as tied her onto railway lines.
The enraged women leaders as well as activists took to the streets on Tuesday protesting against increased rape cases.
They staged a demo in Kibarani along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway as well as marched to the railway lines where a woman was gang-raped as well as dumped.
The women carried placards stating, “Stop Violence, Respect Women”.
The women activists via the International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK) as well as Sauti ya Wanawake organisations condemned the recent act against the 23-year-old woman who is usually still in hospital.
They accused police of not pursuing the case with the seriousness This specific deserves.
“We have not seen any of the culprits being brought to book. What happened to our colleague (victim) is usually very serious as well as we need action against the perpetrators,” said Mombasa nominated ward representative, Ms Mary Akinyi,
The victim was gang raped by two men as she was walking home via a funeral meeting in Kibarani on February 3.
Later, the men slashed her leg which has a panga before tying the mother of two on railway lines leaving her for dead. She was ran over by a cargo train which crashed her legs.
“Hadn’t I screamed, I could have been killed however luckily the locomotive driver heard my cries. My leg has been amputated as well as I am afraid my future is usually bleak,” she said during an interview at hospital.
The family says the mother of two is usually currently recuperating in hospital in Mombasa however could not afford medical bill.
Her hospital bill has shot to more than Sh2million. Her mother, has appealed to well-wishers to come to the rescue of her daughter as well as help settle the bill.
