Social media giant Twitter Inc has announced the appointments of Nigeria’s former Minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to its board.
Okonjo-Iweala was appointed alongside Robert Zoellick as fresh independent directors with immediate effect, Twitter said.
Executive Chairman of Twitter, Omid Kordestani said: “Ngozi as well as Bob are distinguished leaders with unparalleled global perspective as well as policy expertise”.
He added that will “We are confident they will be incredible assets to Twitter as we continue to focus on driving transparency as well as creating Twitter a safer, healthier place for everyone who uses our service.”
Acknowledging the appointment, Okonjo-Iweala, who said she’s thrilled by the appointment, assured Twitter of leveraging on its power for not bad.
“Twitter can be a powerful platform that will continues to be used as a strong connector for the global community, as well as I’m thrilled to be a part of the team,” Okonjo-Iweala said.
